Girls Gone Hungry Does The ‘BURBS Vol. 7

Hey foodie fam! We’re back with our series The ‘BURBS and eating some super tasty food this week. Check out where we ate this week!

Doug’s Delight

Since it’s finally warming up I wanted to hit up at least ONE ice cream place. Doug’s Delight in Hazel Park did not disappoint. Not only do they offer tasty ice cream creations they also have actual food including Doug’s Dogs which are a bunch of tasty and creative hot dog options! I ordered the Gangnam Style Hot Dog topped with Kimchi, mayo, spicy peanuts and hard boiled egg. It was REALLY good. Definitely an interesting flavor profile and not something you would expect from an ice cream shop. They had a few specials as well including the Dirt Sundae so I ordered that for dessert. It was super tasty and big enough to split with someone.

The Gangnam Style Dog: Kimchi, kewpie Mayo, scallion, spiced peanuts, hard boiled egg
Gummy worms for the win! This was vanilla ice cream, chopped up Oreos and of course gummy worms.

Tubby’s

The other day I had a revelation while talking to my mom, I have never tried a sandwich from Tubby’s. They are a local sandwich shop founded in 1968 in St. Clair Shores, MI. They have a ton of franchises now and I can now say I have tried one of their grilled subs! I ordered the Turkey Club on white bread and a side of French Fries. I liked that they had lots of side options and a pretty good looking veggie option. If you are vegetarian try the Hot Veggie Stir fry sub with Mushrooms, green peppers, broccoli, onions, cheese and pizza sauce. The sandwich was decent and I liked the fries. I don’t think this will be my go-to sandwich shop, Jersey Mike’s is current fave, but I’m glad I tried it!

Wow Mediterranean Cuisine Express

Wow Mediterranean Cuisine is small corner restaurant in Royal Oak that offers carry-out only. I love their Customizable Rice Bowls and always get the Chicken Shawarma bowl with pickled beets, red cabbage, chickpeas, banana peppers, red onion, purple cabbage, and the tiniest bit of garlic sauce. The garlic sauce is POTENT but so good. I also always order a side of hummus and pita!

This Shawarma bowl is so flavorful!
