When you hear the word ramen do visions of orange colored packages and microwaved college dinners float through your mind? Well my friends, throw away everything you think you know about this Asian dish because the ramen of 2019 is a classier, hipper, and more expensive dining experience. Ramen restaurants have sprouted up in Detroit and beyond and we’ve hand picked our favorite five spots to order the delicious noodles.
Johnny Noodle King
This Fort Street restaurant with a view of the Ambassador Bridge pioneered the way for ramen restaurants in Detroit. A simple and to-the-point menu offers noodles only and that’s the way we like it! We love that they provide options for their vegetarian friends with the vegan miso and veggie shoyu dishes.
Urban Ramen
This LA based company created much buzz when it opened it’s doors in Midtown last summer. The restaurant states it’s mission is to provide customers the most “Urban” experience while serving delicious yet traditional Japanese ramen. They pay close attention to the new trends and cooking techniques in evolving Japanese Ramen market, in order to offer customers the most up to date flavor.
Ima
This Corktown favorite has recently opened a second location in Madison Heights and we could not be more thrilled. A night out in Detroit is always fun, but sometimes you want to avoid the hassle of parking and the suburban location resolves that problem for you. There are plenty of awesome options, but we suggest the tori udon dish.
Antihero
A welcome new addition to Ferndale, Antihero features Japanese comfort food with influences from Korean and American cuisine. The restaurant is inspired by Japanese izakayas, or casual drinking houses serving small plates meant to be shared with friends. With a chicken as well as a miso option there are dishes for both meat lovers and vegetarians.
Noodle Art
You’ll find this stylish establishment within Detroit’s Greektown Casino. The restaurant showcases a ginger white soy chicken ramen that is sure to delight the senses. As just one of the options you’ll find in the food court style Monroe Market, you can start off with a noodle dish jump to a burger or pizza for your second course.
