If you are searching for the best pizza in metro Detroit, look no further than Amici’s Kitchen and Living Room in Berkley, Michigan. This 12 Mile establishment was purchased early this year by Tim and Laura Kenrick. And if you had been to the old pizza joint, keep in mind this is NOT the Amici’s restaurant you remember. Tim and Laura have worked hard to give the space a makeover, and we think it’s better than ever. The front facade has been painted a stylish white, and in the back there is a beautifully romantic patio. Ivy climbs the brick walls and stringlights hang overhead. Indoors you’ll find a much more modern space. There is a large bar serving up unique cocktails and craft beer. The room is dimly lit to keep the setting romantic, but each table has it’s own lantern, providing just the right amount of lighting.
If you like what you hear about the additions to the space, just want until you learn about the menu. A newly expanded menu offers plenty of appetizers with options like oven-roasted cauliflower and our favorite, baked provolone. Next you may want to try one of the freshly made salads that pair with homemade dresses that include balsamic vinaigrette, herb vinaigrette, garlic romano. We highly recommend the garlic romano, Amici’s take on ranch dressing.
As far as pizza goes you will find some of the old classics, but the Kendrick’s have created new favorites that are inspired and delicious. One such option is the portobello mushroom which features fresh sliced portabella mushroom, roasted garlic, crispy bacon and fontina cheese on our house made garlic spread. There are also plenty of vegan options for our non meat eating friends, too. It’s not easy to make vegan pizza, but Amici’s hits it out of the park. We tried the Vegan Pesto which was made with pesto, fresh broccoli, fresh plum tomatoes and roasted garlic. What a refreshingly delicious and creative take on a vegan pizza! We encourage you to browse over the menu, and if you don’t know how you could possibly choose out of all the great options, we have good news – you don’t have to!
