Girls Gone Hungry

Five Coffee Shops You Have to Try in Traverse City

Our sister lives in the Upper Peninsula and gets to travel to Traverse City for work. We always take advantage of her Traverse City visits and meet up with her for a few days. One of the highlights of my stays is working in new coffee shops in the area. I’ve compiled a list of a few of my favorites for you to try on your next visit!

BLK \ MRKT Coffee Shop

This cozy shop nestled in the Warehouse district in downtown Traverse City has a comfy vibe, delicious coffee, and a great selection of pastries and breads to snack on. This shop is light and bright thanks to a huge window, and you’ll find seating and outlets if you plan on working for a bit. When you finish up make sure to check out the neighboring shops in the building. This is my favorite place to work when I’m in town.

Love this space for amazing coffee and cozy work vibes.

Mundos Roasting

This is another great space for working while sipping on amazing coffee. All of Mundos coffee is roasted in small batches right here in Traverse City. If you are hungry they also have house made artisan pastries available. They have an easily accessible parking lot as well! Am I the only person that worries about parking?

Who else is a sucker for Matcha everything!?

Higher Grounds Trading Co

Higher Grounds is a little bit outside of downtown Traverse City (barely) and a great place to stop for premium coffee. Their salted caramel latte topped my list of 2018. The inside isn’t huge but they do have a patio in the summer. They don’t offer to go cups, but you can take a ceramic mug with you to cut down on waste. Keep it or return it your next visit! Another awesome fact about Higher Grounds Trading Co – They believe in fair trade and livable wages for coffee growers. According to their website they believe in “a cycle that begins with, and returns to, our partners in coffee-growing regions. We’re fully engaged in that cycle, sourcing coffee directly from farmers through ownership of our importer Cooperative Coffees and circling back to the farmers and their communities via our sister nonprofit, On the Ground.” We think that is pretty awesome!

This Salted Caramel Latte was FANTASTIC

Brew Traverse City

For those of us who like to transition straight from coffee to wine – Brew Traverse City is the perfect spot to visit. You’ll find Organic Coffee and Espresso, teas, microbrews, local wines and house Crafted Cocktails. The best part they have a weekly happy hour –  4-7pm.  $2 off all beer and house cocktails! There is plenty of seating inside and lots of people studying and working during the day.

The last time we visited Brew City it was in the fall. We had a pumpkin spice latte and a hot apple cider. Delicious!

Espresso Bay Traverse City

If you’re looking for a tasty cup of coffee to go – Espresso Bay is a great option. While they have plenty of seating and a cozy fireplace, this is my usual go to stop if I want to stroll downtown with my cup. There is a TON of coffee options here. If you are someone that loves flavored coffee your options are endless and on my last visit they even had CBD coffee on the menu. You’ll also find tea, tea lattes and smoothies. I grabbed a vanilla chai latte during my visit this week and it was TO DIE FOR. How can they make tea taste so good?

All orders are prepared in a to go cup unless requested.
