Girls Gone Hungry Does Date Night … but not too fancy : Top 10

Date night neon sign on brick wall background

We obviously love Girls Night but date night isn’t bad either 😉

Here’s a list of our favorite places to wine and dine with our loves when you don’t feel like getting TOO fancy!

Red Coat Tavern

Red Coat would make many of my favorite lists – most importantly BEST BURGER ever. However, I would also confidently add this to best date night pick! They currently have 2 locations, the original in Royal Oak and the newer option in West Bloomfield Hills.  Both locations are great for date night, but I prefer the older and more casual Royal Oak spot. There’s usually a wait and they don’t take reservations- but if you call ahead you can add your name to the waitlist. The bar is open seating so feel free to grab a seat if any are open. My recommendation is the Original Red Coat Piedmontese Burger and make sure to split the onion rings. We like it so we ALWAYS put a ring on it. Red Coat has a great wine and beer list so stay awhile and enjoy each others company! Another perk – they are open until 2AM every night except Sunday.

Second Best

Second Best is a bar/restaurant located off Woodward downtown. The menu is casual but delicious with options like the Pizza Puff Du Jour and a Veggie Quesadilla. They also have a great cocktail menu perfect for date night. The location is close to the stadiums and music venues on Woodward so this is a great place to start your night out downtown!

Pop’s For Italian

Date nights in downtown Ferndale are always fun. We love Pop’s for its amazing food, great wine list, and easy and casual vibe that still feels like a night out. When I think of the perfect date night nothing beats sharing pasta and wine. Choose from their handmade pasta dishes, Neapolitan pizza, or Italian Classics like Eggplant Parmesan.  Enjoy choosing from their 32 rotating wines – ask you server for recommendations, they are always super helpful!

Vinsetta Garage

Vinsetta is perfect for date nights when you just want to chow down on amazing food and drink a good beer with your love. We always order the Coal-Fired breadsticks or Disco Fries  to start. They are perfect for sharing and the portions are great. For dinner we usually choose from one of the many burger options – be warned these tasty burgers can get MESSY, but this ain’t a fancy date night – so just enjoy it! The bar has a great wine and beer selection and you can even split a boozy milkshake if you’re feeling like high school sweethearts. This place can get busy, but order a drink while you wait and enjoy the extra time with your date!

Green Space Cafe

You’ll love this place whether you are vegan or not. Green Space has a beautiful interior that still feels comfortable and makes a great date night spot. We love their wine and cocktail list – a great drink can really make a night out feel special! Everything on the menu is 100% vegan so this is a great choice if you want to change up your normal date night routine. The menu is seasonal and changes but I’ve never tried something that I didn’t enjoy. If I could make vegan this tasty at home I might just convert!

NARA

We recently checked out the new NARA Hibachi grill in West Bloomfield and had a fantastic time! Hibachi is always a great date night option and NARA’s will not disappoint. They have a fantastic drink menu with cocktails that will wow. If you’d like a more intimate dinner setting, you can order hibachi from their regular tables and forego the grill. Their lounge is open late, offering its own menu, specialty sushi, artisanal cocktails, and more.

Northern Lights Lounge is a super chill bar in downtown Detroit with a tasty menu, good beer, and great music. We love all of the comfy seating and the great patio in the summer. This is a great date night pick when you want to hang out and relax with your favorite person!

We love The Royce for a casual but classy date night out! Stop by for 1/2 pour tasting flights paired with some amazing cheese and charcuterie. When you’ve decided on your favorite purchase a bottle to go and bring the date night home!

Maru Sushi

Maru Sushi is located downtown and a great date night spot when you’re craving sushi. We love all of the Sharing plates, especially the Romano red potato and crabby mushrooms. The sushi selection is vast and so is their beer, wine, and sake selection. If you’re date night starts early enough they also have an awesome Happy Hour menu from 2:30-6:30 Monday thru Friday!
