Girls Gone Hungry

Girls Gone Hungry Does The ‘BURBS: Vol. 6

Welcome Back to our food adventures around Metro-Detroit! This week was super special because we celebrated Fat Tuesday! We’re sharing where we picked up our yearly Paczki and more!

Apple Fritter Donut Shop

We love this local Ferndale bakery and we managed to pick up our Paczki before they sold out! We made sure to grab custard, cherry, lemon, blueberry, and apple! Want to know the difference between a Paczki and a Jelly donut? Paczki are made of a very rich, sweet yeast dough consisting of eggs, butter and milk, donuts‘ dough is usually not nearly as rich. … About the only difference is that Pączki uses a richer dough than jelly donuts.

Interested in how this Polish tradition started? The Tuesday before lent, people of Poland used up food so that it would not be spoiled or wasted. Families would use up their eggs, butter and sugar and fruit by treating themselves one last time before Lent began with these rich donuts. This tradition was started in the medieval age during the reign of August III.

Lemon is my FAVE flavor – always! What’s yours?

Beau’s Grillery

We also tried a new brunch spot this week! Beau’s Grillery is located in Bloomfield Hills, and across the street from our favorite theater, The Maple! We tried a few things from the menu including the Make Your Own Egg Skillet, Buttermilk pancakes with blueberry and lemon curd (told you it was my fave flavor) and Avocado Toast. I loved that the Avocado Toast had goat cheese on it! They have bottomless Mimosas for $15 and I highly recommend the Pear version!

Avocado toast topped with onion, goat cheese, and soft boiled egg. I always order avocado toast if it’s on the menu.

Atomic Coffee

This sandwich is SO GOOD. TRY IT! Also, nothing makes me happier than when I get the corner table on the lower level. I get the sunshine, outlets for charging my laptop and lots of space.

Are you sick of me eating at coffee shops yet? I work from home so I get the most work done if I leave the house for a few hours. The California Turkey sandwich from Atomic Coffee is my #1 FAVORITE Coffee shop sandwich. The bulk of the food menu is only available until 3PM. This sandwich comes with toasted tomato basil bread, turkey, smoked gouda, avocado, red pepper aioli, lettuce, tomato, and red onion!

Thanks for tuning it to this week’s food adventures! See you soon!
