Girlsgonehungry Learns to Cook :: Review of Mirepoix in Royal Oak

If you’ve visited our Instagram account, it should come as no great shock to learn that little cooking goes on in the Girlsgonehungry household.  With endless restaurant possibilities in Metro Detroit, who has time to slave away in the kitchen? Oh, and there is the teeny tiny fact that we don’t know how. Or at least, we thought we didn’t! That was before our whirlwind romance with Mirepoix in Royal Oak. Bet you didn’t know there was a cooking school on the top floor of Holiday Market! Through our work we signed up for the Vegetarian Made Easy class. It was a fun, easygoing environment and we are amazed at how good our dinner turned out. Take a peek at our adventure below.

There were 10 of us in the class.  We all made our own Vegetable Shepherd’s Pie, but we divided up the rest of the items.
Fresh veggies. How lovely!
We learned a trick to cutting onions.
We were in charge of the Tomato Bisque and Grilled Cheese Croutons
We even made Thyme butter spread.
Yeah we learned how to make grilled cheese at a cooking class.
Time to turn this masterpiece into a crouton.
Meanwhile our cooking neighbors were creating this Barley Risotto Primavera.
This is all vegetarian! Behold the base of our veggie Shepherd’s Pie.
Time for the mashed potatoes to make their debut! The only thing better than piping frosting is piping mashed potatoes.

VOILA! You may now call us Chef G & H.
