Girls Gone Hungry

Igloo Dining in Detroit :: Lumen

Lumen Detroit is giving you the chance to dine in an igloo this holiday season. The Beacon Park eatery has brought six of the plastic bubbles to their patio, each decorated in a different theme. These structures are perfect for all the occasions – they’d make a perfect girls’ night out destination as well as the backdrop for a unique date experience. We had the chance to eat in one this past week, and we’re in love.

Our igloo had a ski lodge feel, complete with big warm blankets and furs. Space heaters and the greenhouse effect keep the spaces warm. We went on a 35 degree day and were able to take our coats off, but if you are super sensitive to the cold, we suggest dressing warm.

The new lunch menu is delicious. We ordered a heaping plate of frites, the cheese and charcuterie board, and pretzels. But it was the hibiscus margarita that stole the show.  The cocktail had lots of flavor and was the perfect match to our app extravaganza.

You can’t reserve the igloos, they are on a first come first serve basis, but you can add your name to a list once you arrive at the restaurant. They fit 5-7 people, and the seating is communal. This means if you are a party of 2, you’ll probably find yourself sharing your igloo with a few other people. The space is quite intimate, so be prepared to make friends with your igloo mates! We met a lovely couple during our visit and had fun discussing our favorite Detroit eateries!

We went at Noon on a Saturday and had no problem grabbing an igloo but the waitress said you plan on visiting at night expect a wait. So our tip, arrive early! Don’t plan on staying all day though. If there is people waiting they said they do try to limit each party to an hour. Also, in case you were wondering, the igloos are no extra cost 🙂

We are extremely excited Lumen has brought this fun dining option to the city.  There’s something festive about eating in one of these igloos that puts you in the holiday spirit. We highly recommend visiting Lumen before the season ends.
