I’ve discovered a new gem in Shelby Township, 40 years in the making! Filippa’s has been in business many years, but a recently revamped menu is bringing fresh, local produce, house made pasta and sauces, and seasonally-inspired dishes to your plate.
We tried a few of the classic dishes and many of the new plates, and the flavors were amazing for all.
First up the Cauliflower dish – this is served with melty cream gruyere cheese, shallot, golden raisin, and capers. This was a unique spin on a cauliflower appetizer and my new favorite way to eat this delicious vegetable.
Next we tried the Baby Carrots. Locally grown carrots are topped with Black Garlic, Honey, Ricotta, and Quinoa. The carrots are sweet and delicious and the creamy ricotta adds the perfect balance. This may have been one of my favorite and most unexpected dishes!
My mom’s favorite vegetable was this Broccolini plate, dressed in Smoked Bleu Cheese, Mai Ploy Vinaigrette, and peanuts!
If you’re craving a salad I recommend the Fall Panzanella. Baby Kale is tossed with Squash, crouton, spiced pepita, feta, and pomegranate seeds then dressed with an onion vinaigrette. It’s slightly sweet, crunchy, and delicious!
Okay, just 3 more courses! lol. Next up was the Fusilli Pasta, if you love spice this dish will make you swoon. Bite into one of the Shishito Peppers for an instant hint of heat! Pasta is hand made and you can taste the difference it makes in this dish.
Our last two entrees are from the Classic Filippa’s menu, but revamped. The Prime Rib is perfectly cooked and served with a flavorful Au Jus. The Chicken Baci is creamy, flavorful, and filling!
If you’re looking for the amazing flavors you often find in the Downtown Detroit dining scene, but with easy parking and and a comfortable and relaxed dining space, Filippa’s may become your new favorite night out!
